Marjorie Evelyn Bisby, 95, of Carthage, passed away at 7:50 PM, Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the Illinois Veteran’s Home in Quincy.
Marjorie was born March 26, 1928, the daughter of Meinert J. and Florence M. (Triboulet) Ufkes in Keokuk, Iowa. She attended Carthage High School, graduating in 1946. On April 12, 1947, she was united in marriage to Vernon Ancelet. She was later married to George Cole in 1954 and he preceded her in death in 1966. On February 12, 1967, Marjorie was united in marriage to Russell Bisby at the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Basco. He preceded her in death in 2009.
Marjorie taught for one year after high school and then went on to work for the Ordinance Plant and had also worked as a telephone operator in Carthage. She and Russell owned and operated Biz’s Campground south of Carthage for 27 years. Marjorie had enjoyed her Pitch Card club since 1956 and had been a very active member of the V.F.W. Women’s Auxiliary for many years.
Marjorie is survived by four children, Albert Ancelet of Carthage, Alice (Larry) Wilkens-Mann of Middleton, Wisconsin, Donald (Carolyn) Cole of Carthage, and Betty Sue Grimes of McHenry, Illinois; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Doris Holtsclaw of Carthage.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; a daughter, Mary Ancelet; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 12pm on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Basco with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 to 12 prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
